Milan and Italy in general

Benvenuto Club: this international women's club is a wonderful resource
for any English-speaking newcomers
Virgilio: you'll find the yellow and white pages plus a map section when
knowing the address isn't enough (plus lots more information and e-mail
service)
Ultranet: if you're looking for a "cheap" long-distance phone service with no
local connection fees
Italian language: if you're ever in a bind and don't know how to say
something in Italian, this site is a great reference
Esselunga: order your groceries online
Medusa Cinema: find out what movies are playing where; you can
pre-order tickets as well through the site
Movies in English: I found a great site that not only lists English language
movies, but lots more about living in Milan
Italian Made: a great online guide to all things Italian, especially food and
wine
Ordering wine online: we've been really happy with this distributor who
offers wine from smaller, less well-known vineyards; prices are right and
delivery time is within a few days
Easy Milano: "the free classified ad magazine for the English-speaking
community of Milan" and a great resource if you pay attention to their ads;
you can pick up the magazine at any English-speaking location
(International Health Center, Dr. Paesani's office, The American Bookstore,
to name a few)
For Americans abroad: get up-to-the-minute information on any issued
travel advisories or any other worldwide cautionary announcements from the
Department of State Consular Affairs website
Mister Price: this discount Italian website offers everything from ceiling
fans to cell phones, gym equipment to office equipment, cameras to beauty
products
Telepass: if you prefer the Telepass lane to the VinCard lane when leaving
Milan behind, you can get your Telepass through this site
Mapquest: if you would rather have directions in English as you drive within
Italy, or all over the world actually, this site is a great resource (I'm using it
for the first time today to drive to Monza...
My first time using the service in Italy)

Health

Ivillage: "the internet for women" is its logo; this is a site for women, created
by women
Dr. Greene: a useful source when you need pediatric advice in a pinch
Mayo Clinic: all medical advice you could possibly need from first-aid to
pregnancy is provided on this renowned clinic's site
Dr. Stefania Paesani now has an informative pediatric site of her own

Family/Kids

Baby Goes Too: a great resource to consult before speaking with your
travel agent and booking your trip
Babies Travel light: apparently this site ships perishables to worldwide
destinations enabling parents to pack light when going on holiday
Easy Milano: if you're in the market for a babysitter, au pair, nanny,
housekeeper, etc., the classified sections of EM are worth checking out
Au pair search: check out these two websites, but be prepared to spend
some time online; both require small fees to make the most of their
services...
www.newaupair.com and greataupair.com
