This list of pediatric, over-the-counter medicines was compiled
by my, Alexandra Nash, kids' pediatrician, Dr. Stefania Paesani.
Entogermina or Dicoflor 30= probiotic: used to stop diahrrea without an antibiotic-
(Yovis Pediatrico is a live probiotic that requires refrigeration)
Dicodral= Pedialyte: rehydration powder that you mix with water to prevent dehydration
Rinforrza= Pediasure: high calorie powder in vanilla and chocolate flavors to encourage a
weary appetite; great to use after a bad stomach flu
Antibacterial ointment
Cicatrene Crema or Aureomicina= Neosporin: can be used on minor cuts, scrapes and
burns
Perossido di Idrogeno= hydrogen peroxide: great for cleaning cuts and scrapes before
applying antibacterial ointments
Fitostimoline= great for cuts and minor burns (also second degree) and, believe it or not,
cracked and sore nipples from breastfeeding
Eye drops
Collirio Euphralia e Camomilla= drops for dry, irritated eyes but NOT for conjunctivitis
Constipation
first try watered down prune juice for babies; pear, apple or prune juice for toddlers
Supposte di Glicerine per bambini= glycerin suppositories (check for the appropriate age
on the package)
Allergies
Tinset= Benadryl: dose is different so please consult your doctor's advice or the
instructions for proper dose
Vaspit or Idrocortisone Russel= very mild cortisone creams
Severe dry skin or Eczema
Lichtena= good everyday cream for dry and very sensitive skin
Stela Atopia= for bad Eczema or severely dry skin
Stela Tria= for really irritated dry spots and diaper rash (does seem to sting the face
though)
Bepanthenol Crema= for bad diaper rashes and to prevent them
Xeramance Plus= for the face and body
Gas
Mylicon= drops that help relieve a gassy tummy
Collikind= homeopathic remedy for a gassy tummy (dilute in water suitable for babies-
Sant'Ana, Sangemini or after 6 months, Panna)
Bumps and bruises
Fastum= apply immediately after your child injures himself and you anticipate a bruise;
the bruise won't be as severe and may not even show (I keep this in stock!). Don't use on
open wounds
arnica gel=a great homeopathic remedy if used before "the bump" appears. Follow
instructions for continued usage while bruise heals
Ears
Debrox= drops to apply in ear if problems with "wax plugs" or wax in ears that may cause
your kids to pull or scratch their ear
Otalgan= ear drops that relieve potential ear infection pain
Runny nose season
Dr. Reckeweg nose spray: I found this through a faramcia close to my kid's school and
this homeopathic decongestant really does the trick in eliminating thick yellow mucous
